England & Wales Marriage Certificate
Need a copy of a marriage certificate for a marriage registered in England or Wales? We prepare, check and submit your application to the General Register Office (GRO), and the certificate is posted to your address.
One online form, about 5 minutes. A person checks every detail before it is submitted.
Was the marriage registered in Scotland or Northern Ireland instead? Choose the right register here.

Who can apply
Marriage records in England and Wales are public records, so anyone can apply for a certificate. You do not need to be one of the spouses. The GRO holds records from 1 July 1837, and a full certificate (a certified copy of the register entry) shows both parties, the date and the place of the marriage, which is the version needed for visa and residence applications, name changes, pensions and probate. We use the details you provide to locate the correct entry.
What you will need
- The full names of both parties, including surnames before the marriage.
- The date of the marriage, or at least the year.
- The place of the marriage (town, church or register office).

A single, transparent price
£60 all-in. That’s the official GRO fee (passed on to you at cost, no markup) plus our service fee for checking, preparing, submitting and following up your application.
Apply-Assist is an independent private service that helps applicants to prepare and submit their civil certificate requests accurately. We charge a fixed total of £60 (government fee and applicable taxes already included) for our administrative and assistance service, providing individualized support for each application to ensure that the process is carried out properly. We are not affiliated with the GRO, National Records of Scotland, GRONI or any UK government body. The same certificate can be ordered directly, and usually for less, from the official government service.
