Your questions, answered straight

No small print, no dodging the awkward ones.

No. Apply-Assist is a private service. We are not a government body and are not affiliated with the General Register Office, National Records of Scotland, GRONI or any other authority.

Yes. You can apply directly through the official government service (for example gov.uk for England & Wales), usually for a lower total cost, and we say so on every page. People choose us when they would rather not deal with the official forms themselves: we check that the details match what the register office needs (names as registered, the right district, the right register), we submit the application as your authorised agent and pay the official fee for you, and a real person answers your questions until the certificate is issued. If you are comfortable applying yourself, you do not need us.

The register office decides that, not us. We submit your application promptly, but we cannot guarantee or speed up official processing times. Each register office publishes its current timescales on its official website.

Our service fee covers the work we do regardless of the outcome. If the register office cannot locate the record, we refund the official fee that was not used, except any non-refundable search fee the register office keeps. See our Refund Policy.

Marriage and civil partnership records are public records in the UK, so anyone can apply. You do not have to be the person named on the certificate.

England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The UK has three separate civil registers (the General Register Office, National Records of Scotland and GRONI), and when you start a request we ask you which one holds the entry so that your application goes to the right place.

Yes. We process your data under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. See our Privacy Policy.

The certificate is issued by the government register office and sent to your address. We do not produce or issue certificates ourselves.
